The Bridge is a circular laboratory building under development at Utrecht Science Park. Utrecht University’s former Earth Sciences building is being extended and adapted for scientific research. Reuse of the existing structure is central to the design, which provides space for research and innovation.
The project
The Bridge is being developed by Kadans Science Partner to a design by architectural firm cepezed. BAM Bouw en Techniek is responsible for construction. The existing concrete structure forms the basis of the building. Two additional storeys and two extensions will create approximately 20.000 m² of laboratories, offices and shared facilities.
Retaining the existing structure reduces the need for new building materials. The atrium with its timber supporting structure and the solar panels integrated into the façades of the new storeys also form part of the project’s sustainable design.
Products supplied
BELPARTS supplied 510 dynamx™ DXN6 flow control valves for the climate ceilings at The Bridge, commissioned by BAM Bouw en Techniek.
These 6-port flow control valves (changeover) regulate the water flow to the climate ceilings and switch between heating and cooling. The flow rate can be set separately for each function.
